All the processes concerning the international applicants to the graduate (master’s and PhD) programs in IMU are managed by our Institute of Graduate Studies.

At the end of every semester, student quotas, admission requirements, and application schedule for international applicants to the graduate programs in IMU are determined by the University Senate and announced on the webpage of IMU Institute of Graduate Studies ( Applications are made online through the Student Information System (OBS). The applications of those meeting the requirements will be submitted to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) for final approval on the recognition of their previous diplomas and higher education institutions. The candidates should follow the webpage of the Institute of Graduate Studies ( for all announcements.

Language of instruction is Turkish (except for certain programs where language of instruction is 100% English) for international candidates, whose proficiency levels in Turkish are determined through the “Turkish Proficiency Exam for Foreign Students” administered by Istanbul Medeniyet University or according to the scores they obtained in a Turkish test administered by a Turkish Teaching Center (TÖMER) run by a Turkish university.

Candidates who are admitted to an undergraduate program without a Turkish proficiency certificate are exempt from their studies for one year to improve their Turkish levels and they can start their graduate studies in their respective programs only after they retake and pass the Turkish proficiency exam following their training in a Turkish Teaching Center (TÖMER).

International applicants to IMU’s graduate programs should meet the specific admission requirements for the departments in question as explained in the announcements.
