Library

Library services in IMU are conducted by the Department of Library and Documentation. In addition to our smaller library halls in the South, Cevizli and Orhanlı Campuses, İstanbul Medeniyet University Ziraat Bank Library opened in the North Campus in 2020 serves as our central library.

Currently, our libraries only serve our students and staff; however, we are planning to open our central library to the public soon. Our students and academic staff have easy in-campus access to the printed resources they need for education activities and both in-campus and off-campus access to the electronic resources. Please click here for detailed information about off-campus library access and here for info on the library working hours.

You can use the webpage of our Department of Library and Documentation here to obtain information about the library services and membership.

Istanbul Medeniyet University Ziraat Bank Library

The library is housed in a smart and barrier-free building with an indoor space of 28,000 square meters designed to serve 7/24 with all the amenities required by modern librarianship. When it reaches its full capacity, it can house one million volumes and 3000 simultaneous users.

All details to ensure user comfort have been applied in the construction and furnishing of the building with different units and spaces designed accordingly. In this context, the library has been designed and furnished with single- and multiple-user desks as well as a group study and silent study rooms, a large sitting tribune with cushions, coffee tables with ottomans, other resting areas, a space for mind games, user lockers and a cafeteria.

The library also contains a Center for the Disabled, Warehouse for Rare Books, Periodicals Area, Bookbindery, Conference Halls, Prayer Room, Dining Hall, Postal Room, and Library Warehouse.

All security measures are in place in our smart library building. Any potential hazards detected by the smoke and odor sensors are announced to the users in Turkish and English and a simultaneous siren sound is automatically activated. In an emergency, our users can be quickly evacuated through four emergency exit stairs located in easily accessible spots. The building also has an emergency shelter for times of war and disasters. The security of our users and books is also ensured by the video surveillance system and RFID security gate. Connection between the floors is achieved by two separate sets of stairs and a total of five elevators (four for the users and one for the library staff).

Our students and academic staff have easy in-campus access to the printed resources they need for education activities and both in-campus and off-campus access to the electronic resources. Our users can return the books they borrowed during library closed hours using the smart returning system and can easily borrow or return books without the help of a librarian by using our barrier-free returning and borrowing stations.
