Undergraduate Program in Visual Communication Design
The Department is located in the North Campus in Ünalan and actively offers a 4-year undergraduate program in visual communication design. The language of instruction in the program is Turkish. The department trains versatile designers who have researching capabilities in visual communication, can use relevant technological equipment, will raise society’s aesthetic appreciation and have internalized the idea of interdisciplinary studies. The department is practice-based and focuses on original, creative, aesthetic and effective visual communication solutions to design problems.
Throughout their training, students will learn the methods of establishing effective and strong communication using different fields of visual communication and computer-based technologies. Because the department has an interdisciplinary design vision, the curriculum consists of many areas such as graphic, interface design, interactive design, animation, illustration, 2D and 3D dimensional design, interaction design, photography, film and video, etc. It is expected from candidates admitted to Visual Communication department to gain the ability to convert visual aesthetic perception, creative and analytical thinking skills to communication.
Program curriculum is 70% practical and students gain practice in creative fields such as motion graphic design, mobile application design, interface design, interactive design, photography, video, animation, and illustration. Program alumni are employed in design and advertising agencies, art, culture, and media units of public and private sector organizations, and non-governmental organizations. The design courses in this department form the basis for creating design solutions on social and environmental issues and encourage students to become design entrepreneurs. They may also pursue academic careers by applying to graduate programs.

Undergraduate Program in Turkish Music
The Department is located in the North Campus in Ünalan and actively offers a 4-year undergraduate program in Turkish music. The language of instruction in the program is Turkish. The program aims to train students in musical theory and practice, paleography, terminology of historical Turkish music, knowledge of form and method, along with foundation instruments of Turkish music, model (meşk) culture, sociology of music, dictation-decipher, composition analysis and organology within a well-balanced curriculum. The courses cover using research techniques, history of music, deciphering the sources of Ottoman music, lyrics analysis, notation, execution and analysis of compositional techniques. The main objective of the program is to train performers who possess the technical competence to perform their instruments on national and international stages, who can match their performance competence with historical and theoretical approaches, who create their own musical discourse on the basis of free thought, and to provide students with an academic vision.
Turkish nationals who obtain the base score in the national TYT exam can apply to the department to take the Special Talent Exam to be admitted. Although the department has not admitted any international students until now, it has ongoing plans to do so and will announce its quota for international students when it is available in the University’s annual announcement on the admission of international students. Program alumni graduate as ‘’performers’’ and can be employed as artists in government institutions such as TRT and the Ministry of Culture, as well as in private institutions. Alumni who continue with graduate education can also conduct research in Turkish music as part of their academic careers alongside their performance careers.
